This letter from the MoD to the defence secretary discusses the government’s response to Campaign Against Arms Trade’s (CAAT) proposed legal action. It recommends that the Business Secretary does not suspend arms export licences as this is neither ‘necessary nor appropriate’. It highlights that the MoD regularly monitors allegations about Coalition and Saudi air strikes in Yemen and engage closely with the Saudis on these issues, and that the Saudis understand concerns about IHL and have taken action to address them. It states that it will provide further legal, intelligence and targeting training to support Saudi IHL compliance and intend to work with a joint investigations committee with the Saudis.
