Application, 01.03.2024

On 1 March 2024, Nicaragua filed an application instituting proceedings against Germany before the ICJ for alleged violations of Germany of the Genocide Convention, the Geneva Conventions, “intransgressible principles of [IHL]” and other norms of general international law applicable to the situation in Palestine, and particularly in Gaza. Nicaragua argues that Germany has failed to prevent the commission of genocide and of breaches of IHL, and is facilitating the commission of genocide by providing political, military, and economic support for Israel and by defunding UNRWA.
