Read the full press releaseCoalition of Canadian Human Rights Lawyers (CLAIHR) condemns the Israeli airstrike on a humanitarian convoy in Gaza on 1 April that killed seven aid workers, including a Canadian national. CLAIHR stresses Canada’s obligation to halt all arms exports to Israel, referencing Canada’s partial pause on new permits since 8 January 2024 and ongoing legal challenges.
CLAIHR argues that Canada’s existing arms exports to Israel remain a serious risk to international law compliance. They call for a binding Court order on Canada to comply with its domestic and international legal obligations and ensure Canadian military goods or technology are not used to facilitate or commit serious violations of international humanitarian law or international human rights law, or serious acts of violence against women and children.
