Email, 26.01.2016

This email from the FCO department for arms exports considers how to respond to the request for specific action on arms exports to Saudi Arabia contained in the pre-action protocol letter from Campaign Against Arms Trade’s (CAAT) lawyers. They recommend that the foreign secretary should not suspend extant licences nor the processing of new licence applications for the export of arms to Saudi Arabia, but agree that licences should continue to be assessed on a case by case basis against the consolidated criteria, but that they need to keep the situation under close review.
